History

According to the Benedictines of Dom DeVie and Dom Vaissette, Pouzolles derives its name from “PODOLI”, oil well.
This seems likely, the proximity of the oil source to Gabian suggests that there must have been others in Pouzolles.
Since the 11th century, Pouzolles has been mentioned in a large number of charters and as in all the surrounding towns, there are numerous testimonies of the Roman occupation.
